What is SODALITAS?
Sodalitas Foundation has been involved for 25 years in achieving and recognizing the company leadership in the fulfilment of a sustainable development. It was born in 1995 on the initiative of Assolombada and has been the first organization in Italy to promote the company sustainability concept. The “Sodalitas Call for Future” project addresses to the movement of those companies committed to accomplish projects in Italy in the name of a sustainable future and according to ONU 2030 Agenda. It was born in order to let institutions and people, above all the young ones, know the strategic role of the institutions in the promotion of a sustainable development of the country. Many companies maintained the challenge and put themselves there responsibly out. Thus far 150 projects take part to the Sodalitas Call for Future venture. Every company can participate free of charge and contribute to the fulfilment of a sustainable future through concrete actions, giving voice to those realities that can be both an example and an inspiration for others.
Who can take part?
All the companies located in Italy can take part to Sodalitas Call for Future. These can have any purpose (managerial, administrative, productive or commercial) and dimension (small, medium, big), can be located everywhere in Italy and can operate in any market sector, except from the following ones: gambling, tobacco, spirits, weapons. To take part to the Sodalitas Call for Future venture, the companies have to submit within a certain deadline the case history of one or more projects in progress, whether they are fulfilled in Italy or in a foreign country within the last five years and which have produced a positive change concerning one of the following challenges: Call for Planet (opposition to climate change, circular economy, sustainable use of natural resources, biodiversity preservation, sustainable and resilient territories); Call for People (opposition to inequalities, social inclusion, health, well-being and life quality, social innovation, fair communities); Call for Work (lifelong employability, diversity, work quality, work-life balance and employees well-being, young people, school and job market); Call for Better (enterprise & culture for a sustainable future, transparency in the relation with the market and the consumers, purchase and consumption behaviours, sustainable lifestyles, waste reduction).
“In 2022 La Cantina Pizzolato SRL is proudly part of the Sodalitas Call for Future venture, which involves the companies located in Italy in the achievement of actions aimed at a sustainable future according to ONU 2030 Agenda and the youngest one, the world’s citizens of tomorrow. Sodalitas Call for Future is a venture of Sodalitas Foundation (www.sodalitas.it)”.
The “BACK TO BASIC” project
The “Back to Basic” project we presented, was born in 2021 with the purpose of improving the following SDGs: Responsible Consumption and Production and Partnerships for the Goals, and it is included within the “Call for Better” challenge. The submitted project is more than a simple line of wines that, now more than ever, launches a challenge with a specific purpose: to minimize the impact of the wine packaging on the environment, creating business networks in the supply chain. According to us, “Back to Basic” is a line going beyond the organic wine concept and involving the whole packaging supply chain through the use of six eco-friendly elements having a low environmental impact: grape, glass, cork, capsule, label, cardboard. Starting from today this is possible: a line introducing itself with its essence in a simple and basic message, talking about sustainability and environment.
Fulfilled activities to meet the challenge and accomplish the purpose
“Back to Basic” project has been accomplished strengthening business and supply change networks, initially introducing the final product we wanted to obtain and later asking supplier by supplier the most sustainable available product in the market. The business network has as of now been inclined to share different points of view, ideas, proofs, attempts and attention to details which have immediately been taken into consideration in the creation of the Back to Basic packaging. The second important step has been the communication of the project: we organized a digital webinar, addressed both to our clients and final consumers, involving all the suppliers working on this project and letting them participate, explaining what they did. In order to give increasingly substance to the sustainable purpose we planned, the projected concluded with the implementation of another “basic” element, rich in nutritional properties, namely the result of the reuse of the grape seeds that otherwise would have been thrown away. We are talking about the flour obtained from the seeds of the Raboso grape produced by the Pizzolato Farm: not only a product rich in precious nutritional elements, but also symbolizing a productive practice aimed at minimizing waste and enhancing the reuse of resources and raw materials. The box containing the flour and the Back to Basic wine has been available for the consumers starting from Christmas 2021 and has been conceived as a sustainable gift and an example of circular economy.
Results and generated impact
The wine is produced with:
• The GRAPE, organic and vegan certified, and coming from a single supplier, namely the Pizzolato Farm. About 15 hectares are committed to the cultivation of the vine varieties composing the BACK TO BASIC line: Raboso Piave, Pinot Nero, Pinot Grigio, Manzoni Bianco and Chardonnay. • The GLASS employed in thenew line comes from innovative materials. Namely it is the Wild Glass, patented by Estal and whose material is composed by 94% of recycled glass. This glass is 100% PCR (post-consumer recycled) certified and its production allows an extremely reduced ecological impact. The key element of the sustainability has to be added to the high level of personalization allowed by this kind of material. Specifically, in the Back to Basic line we wanted to highlight the uniqueness and the imperfection of the recycled glass, choosing a texture conferring a vintage effect (BACK). The result is a “spontaneous” aesthetic which is compatible with the nature: the physical manifestation of intangible values.
• The CORK is the Twin Top Evo produced by Amorim Cork with a 100% eco-friendly, sustainable and recyclable material, that allows to compensate a level of CO₂ of 297 grams. • The LABEL, made of Sabrage paper, is 100% recycled and does not contain neither plastic nor material coming from unnatural origin, indeed it comes from the cotton industry scraps. It is one single band wrapped around the bottle in order to reduce the use of glue. Moreover, the debossing technique allows to minimize the use of ink.
• The CARBOARD is made up of79% of recycled paper and it is printed using low environmental impact colours. The “BACK TO BASIC” label won the GOLD LABEL at the 25th Vinitaly Design International Packaging Competition 2021 edition and was included within the Pentawards 2021 shortlist.
